Here are a few of the most commonly asked questions how to install and care for Regupol recycled rubber products:

Acoustic & Vibration

Multiple layers are typically installed crosswise, to reduce overlapping joints. Unless small pads or thin strips are applied, multiple layers do not have to be adhered together. Multiple layers of dimpled material are typically installed with the dimpled side facing downwards.

Perimeter isolation for all applications is typically installed before the horizontal isolation is being installed. Regupol America provides Regupol perimeter strips for quick and easy installation.

Most of our materials are supplied in rolls for easy and quick installation. Roll dimensions depend on product type and thickness. Please refer to the product information for the particular product or contact us.

Sonus Series — Impact Sound Control Underlayment

Regupol Sonus is our flat material that can be installed under hardwood, carpet or tile & stone flooring. The SonusWave is our dimpled rubber and is installed under floated engineered hardwood, lightweight concrete or gypsum topping and plywood subfloor. The Sonus LV is our underlayment specifically for vinyl, LVT flooring.

The Sonus material is made from recycled rubber and has a slight rubber smell that dissipates quickly. Once the Sonus is installed under the floor there is no smell.

We have performed many acoustic tests that are shown online & in the brochure that will help guide you to the proper product selection. Please do not hesitate to contact us and we can help determine which product is right for your application.

No not directly. SonusWave can be installed under floated engineered hardwood, plywood, lightweight concrete & gypsum topping. Ceramic tile can be installed on top of the concrete or topping.

No, VCT flooring is very brittle and we do not recommend installation with this type of floor.

Vibration Applications

The product is being chosen based on the expected static and dynamic loads, the expected resonant frequencies (or dominant frequency) of the vibration source and the required insertion loss, and other criteria. We’ll be happy to assist you with calculations and recommendations for your project. Please contact us.

For most of the full coverage applications the material does not need to be glued down to the sub floor. When it comes to pads, blocks or strips, we recommend you to adhere the material to the sub floor to prevent possible movement during installation and avoid potential sound bridges. Please contact us for installation instructions, recommended adhesives and further information.

Floating Floors

The thickness of the concrete slab depends on the structural design, the purpose (use) of the specific area or room, as well as the static and dynamic properties of the particular product. Please contact us for further information.

All dimpled materials have to be installed with the dimpled side facing downwards. When multiple layers are being installed, all dimpled sides shall be facing downwards as well. For most applications multiple layers do not have to be adhered to each other.

Building Isolation

Our materials are not made for seismic protection. Please contact us for assistance if both, seismic protection and vibration isolation, is required.

Machine & Equipment Isolation

For mechanical isolation every information about the machine/equipment is very helpful, e.g. specification, drawings, load distribution, RPM and/or resonant frequencies, minimum or maximum dimensions of concrete foundation. Please contact us for assistance and calculations.

If the foundation or machine is floating on the isolation material without any surrounding walls that would hold the foundation or machine in place, you’d want to consider seismic restraints. Please contact us for further information and recommendations.
